Learning in Nature – An Unforgettable Day at the IGOR Centre

KO 10
On 30 October 2026, pupils from class 4.b, accompanied by their teacher Lucija, visited the IGOR Educational Centre in Marindvor. They took part in a field lesson in Nature and Society as part of their extracurricular activity, Little Naturalists. With their warm hosts Katarina and Igor, and Nikolina, who led the activities in an engaging and creative way, the pupils broadened their knowledge of the living world.

In a space decorated with autumn produce and natural materials, the visit began by a cosy fire with an engaging story about grassland animals. The pupils especially enjoyed learning about the world of bees and bee products. In the next activity, each pupil took on the role of one member of a food chain, and together they used string to show how living things in nature are connected. This was followed by a challenging group activity in which the pupils identified adaptations in plants and animals and explained how these help them survive. They then expressed their creativity by decorating and filling an insect hotel with natural materials. To round off the visit, they explored the organic garden, where Nikolina encouraged them to think about why flowers are planted along the edges of the garden beds. Igor then showed them around the garden and introduced them to the plants growing there.

The pupils took part in every activity with enthusiasm. Their eagerness to return in the spring says a lot about how much they enjoyed the experience.
